Trump Criticizes US Involvement in Ukraine War
In remarks made to reporters at the White House after a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday, Trump voiced his dissatisfaction with the “crazy” extent of US engagement in the war in Ukraine.
He reiterated that the conflict is “not our war,” emphasizing that his administration sought to resolve it through diplomatic means.
Trump remarked, "This is not our war. This is not my war… I mean, we got ourselves entangled in something that we shouldn’t have been involved in. And we would have been a lot better off – and maybe the whole thing would have been better off – because it can’t be much worse. It’s a real mess."
He expressed frustration over the scale of American involvement and suggested that staying out of the conflict could have potentially resulted in a better outcome for all parties involved.
The leader also pointed out that Washington has committed “massive” and “record-setting” military and financial aid to Ukraine, which surpasses the contributions made by the European Union and other NATO allies.
“We don’t have boots on the ground, we wouldn’t have boots on the ground. But we do have a big stake. The financial amount that was put up is just crazy,” Trump added.
