World Health Organization expands Dengue Prevention Efforts in Yemen
(MENAFN) The World Health Organization (WHO) has expanded its dengue fever intervention efforts in Yemen’s southern provinces of Aden and Lahj, responding to a growing number of infections that are compounding the region’s ongoing humanitarian emergency.
According to statements from the WHO’s Yemen office, over 3,900 dengue cases have been documented across the two provinces since the beginning of 2025, with at least 14 associated deaths recorded by April. Both regions remain under the control of the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
In an update shared on social media, the WHO outlined the campaign’s primary objective: to curb the spread of the disease and reduce fatalities.
Key components of the response strategy include eliminating mosquito breeding grounds through larval source management, launching public education initiatives to raise health awareness, and conducting fogging operations in areas with high infection rates.
The escalating outbreak places additional strain on Yemen’s already fragile healthcare system, which continues to grapple with limited resources amid years of conflict and displacement.
