Istanbul Airport Tops Europe in Flight Traffic
(MENAFN) Istanbul Airport became the leading airport in Europe during the final full week of June, averaging 1,553 flights daily, according to the nation's transport minister on Friday.
The airport outperformed other major European hubs including Paris’ Charles de Gaulle, Frankfurt, and London Heathrow airports between June 23 and 29, Abdulkadir Uraloglu stated in an announcement.
Additionally, Antalya Airport, a key hub on the Turkish Riviera, secured the 10th position with an average of 996 flights per day, he noted.
Uraloglu referenced a report from the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) for the June 23-29 timeframe, highlighting that Türkiye ranked sixth across Europe in terms of flight traffic volume.
Averaging 3,992 daily flights, Türkiye surpassed nations like Greece, the Netherlands, and Poland.
"Türkiye is no longer just a transit country in air transportation, but has become a regional and global hub," he emphasized.
Furthermore, Uraloglu mentioned that the average daily flight numbers in Türkiye have increased by 15 percent compared to the period before the COVID-19 pandemic.
