China, France seek to deepen partnership in support of multilateralism
The meeting, held Friday at the Elysee Palace, focused on reinforcing cooperation to counter the growing risks of global polarization and rivalry among power blocs. President Macron asked Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, to extend his greetings and well wishes to Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Macron highlighted that both nations share extensive common ground on key global matters, including the defense of international law and the promotion of multilateral engagement. As permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, he noted, France and China have added responsibilities in a world increasingly marked by instability and unpredictability.
He also emphasized France’s interest in enhancing policy dialogue with China, particularly in areas such as global governance, finance, and the international economy. Macron expressed a desire for both countries to confront global issues together, revitalize multilateral systems, and help steer the world away from hegemonic rivalries and division into competing blocs.
