Former Russian Transport Minister Is Found Dead
Svetlana Petrenko, a spokesperson for the committee, stated that an official inquiry has been launched to uncover the details surrounding the former official’s passing.
Petrenko shared on Telegram that Starovoyt’s body was located inside his vehicle with a gunshot injury.
“The main version is suicide,” she also mentioned.
Quoting emergency personnel, Russian state media previously reported that Starovoyt had taken his own life in the city of Odintsovo, within the Moscow region.
Earlier that same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed an order formally removing Starovoyt from his ministerial position.
Starovoyt had taken over the transport ministry in May 2024, following his term as governor of Russia’s border province of Kursk, a role he held since September 2019.
Shortly afterward, Putin signed another decree installing his deputy, Andrey Nikitin, as the interim head of the transport ministry.
