Cambodia plans to implement mandatory army service next year

(MENAFN) Cambodia will begin enforcing military conscription next year, Prime Minister Hun Manet announced on Monday, according to reports.

Although the conscription law was officially enacted on December 22, 2006, it has never been applied. Ahead of its implementation, the law will undergo “significant legislation revisions, particularly concerning the duration of mandatory service,” the prime minister stated.

Under the upcoming revisions, mandatory military service will likely be extended to two years for all Cambodian citizens between the ages of 18 and 30. For women, however, military service will remain voluntary.
