Fidan Urges Calm in Southern Syria

(MENAFN) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan voiced alarm regarding unfolding events in Syria, especially the escalating confrontations between Druze and Bedouin communities in the southern region.

He cautioned that the growing unrest might endanger the nation’s cohesion and territorial wholeness.

Fidan underlined that Türkiye felt compelled to step in through diplomatic channels, as various factions across the Syrian landscape were reportedly preparing to take action.

"We saw statements and actions from these groups across the north, south, east, and west of the country. As Türkiye, we had to issue our warning because we are committed to Syria's unity and territorial integrity," he declared.

Speaking to a Turkish outlet, Fidan reaffirmed that Türkiye's foremost aim in Syria is to foster regional steadiness and security—an objective echoed by bordering nations, the European Union, and the United States.

He also pointed out that Türkiye has long participated in a wider multinational initiative to promote a nonviolent political transition in Syria, noting encouraging feedback from the newly established Syrian leadership.

Additionally, Fidan drew attention to the geopolitical motivations of nations such as Israel, asserting that certain foreign players were attempting to take advantage of Syria’s fragile condition.
