Sumud Flotilla Reports Drone Attacks, Explosions
(MENAFN) Organizers of the Global Freedom humanitarian flotilla bound for Gaza reported late Tuesday that their ships were subjected to persistent drone interference in international waters, with projectiles fired at several vessels and blasts heard in close proximity.
The International Committee for Breaking the Siege of Gaza stated that drones released incendiary devices onto the vessels Yulara and Ohwayla.
One object was described as a smoke bomb, while another struck the ship’s railing before plunging into the sea without igniting.
According to the committee, two powerful detonations, believed to be stun grenades, were heard near the flotilla. At least 15 drones were said to be flying at low levels above the ship Alma, while another five circled the Deir Yassin at different heights.
Although no injuries or serious structural damage were recorded, the group confirmed that emergency procedures had been activated across all ships. They also reported electronic interference disrupting communications.
“These tactics and attempts at intimidation will not deter the flotilla from its mission to deliver aid and break the blockade,” the committee emphasized, calling on international authorities to guarantee the convoy’s security.
The flotilla, consisting of roughly 50 vessels, embarked earlier this month with the goal of breaking Israel’s blockade and providing humanitarian assistance — primarily medical supplies — to Gaza, where 2.4 million Palestinians have endured an 18-year-long siege.
Recently, UN investigators concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, where more than 65,000 people have lost their lives since October 2023.
