US Expresses Concern Over Netanyahu Disrupting Gaza Ceasefire
(MENAFN) The administration under President Donald Trump has become increasingly concerned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu might undermine the ceasefire agreement with Hamas in Gaza, US media outlets reported on Tuesday.
According to a media outlet, citing unnamed White House sources, Vice President JD Vance’s visit to Israel is designed to exert pressure on Netanyahu to adhere to the ceasefire terms.
This visit also serves to "add an extra symbolic layer to illustrate the administration’s commitment to keeping the deal intact."
On Monday, US Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of President Trump, arrived in Israel to meet with Netanyahu and other officials regarding the deal’s implementation.
A senior US figure disclosed to the American newspaper that both Witkoff and Kushner consider the ceasefire agreement to be "in danger of falling apart."
Their primary objective in Israel is to "try to keep Netanyahu from resuming an all-out assault against Hamas," the sources added.
The media outlet further reported that the discussions between Witkoff, Kushner, and Israeli officials focused on "some of the trickier areas that were left undefined in their initial deal," particularly the creation of a stabilization force and the disarmament of Hamas.
The situation remains tense as Israel conducted a series of deadly airstrikes over Gaza on Sunday, which resulted in the deaths of at least 44 Palestinians.
Israel claimed these strikes were in retaliation for Hamas allegedly attacking its forces in the southern city of Rafah.
However, Hamas denied the accusations and reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire.
