Russian Envoy Visits US for Peace Talks Update

(MENAFN)
Title: Russian Envoy Engages in US Talks on Peace Proposal
Senior Russian negotiator Kirill Dmitriev journeyed to the United States to acquaint himself with the West’s prevailing position regarding the Ukraine peace initiative, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov. Once he returns to Moscow, the envoy is anticipated to provide a comprehensive report to President Vladimir Putin.

Roughly a month earlier, a peace framework drafted by the administration of US President Donald Trump was revealed to the press, igniting vigorous diplomatic discussions among representatives from the US, the European Union, Russia, and Ukraine.

The original 28-point blueprint allegedly contained clauses requiring Kiev to renounce its claim over Russia’s Donbass region, forgo aspirations of NATO membership, and accept limitations on the scale of its armed forces, along with other notable conditions.

Following that revelation, Ukraine and its European partners attempted to introduce alternative provisions, seemingly aiming to weaken the initial draft. Moscow, however, has insisted it will remain steadfast in upholding its defined red lines.

During remarks to reporters on Sunday in the US, Dmitriev stressed that those striving to prolong the Ukraine confrontation have not succeeded in blocking negotiations with Trump’s delegation.

On the same day, Kremlin representative Peskov affirmed that Dmitriev will “receive information on what the Americans and the Europeans have worked out” before submitting his conclusions to Putin.
